Platycerium veitchii ‘AR Chief’ is a silver-toned staghorn fern with tall, pointed shield fronds. The crown stands upright as if the plant has just been asked to give a speech and is enjoying the attention. Its fertile fronds supply a second layer of structure, while the shields grow around the base. P. veitchii is an epiphytic Australian species; the pale look comes from fine surface hairs on the fronds. ‘AR Chief’ identifies this selected form, although the precise meaning of “AR” needs confirmation. It has already brought its own podium. You only need somewhere to hang it.

I am over the moon with this veitchii!! What an impressive specimen. It's healthy and large, and already putting out new shields and hands. I was expecting it to be somewhat smaller so it was a nice surprise to pull it out of the box!
The packing was excellent and my plant arrived safely. Shipping in September was no issue, and it arrived a day after it set out (Alberta destination). Excellent communication from the seller — I had some questions about shipping in the fall, and he quickly explained that it was completely fine.
The staghorn came on what I believe is a 3D-printed mount board with excellent ventilation in the back, sort of a mesh, which is awesome. Overall a 10/10 experience. Thank you!
Came in so beautiful!!!!
