About Platy & Co

We like weird plants.

Platy & Co started with a pretty serious obsession with Platycerium—staghorn ferns, if you prefer names that don’t require Googling.

And we still love them.

But somewhere along the way, we realized it wasn’t really just about staghorns.

It was about that feeling.

You know the one.

You see a plant you’ve never seen before, stare at it for a few seconds, and think:

Wait… what is THAT?

A tree with a rainbow-coloured trunk. A giant potato-looking caudex that suddenly grows a delicate vine. A fern that looks like it belongs on another planet.

The plants that make you wonder how is that even real?

Those are our kind of plants.

So we started looking further.

There are some seriously cool plants being grown and collected around the world that we barely hear about here in Canada.

A plant might have collectors obsessing over it in Taiwan, Japan, Thailand or somewhere else—and meanwhile, over here, most of us have never even heard its name.

We think that’s kind of exciting.

So instead of filling the shop with the same plants you can find everywhere else, we’d rather do a little digging.

Think of us as plant scouts.

We keep an eye out for strange botanical oddities, overlooked collector plants, regional favourites and anything else interesting enough to make us stop scrolling and start researching.

Not rare just for the sake of being rare.

Not expensive just because somebody put “RARE” in the title.

Just really, really cool plants.

How is that real?

That question has become a bit of a thing around here.

When we introduce something unusual, we don’t just want to give you a Latin name, a price and instructions to water it occasionally.

We want to tell you why this thing is so damn cool.

Where did it come from?

Why do collectors somewhere else love it?

Why does it look like that?

What strange little evolutionary decision resulted in this thing sitting in a pot in your living room?

Because discovering the story is half the fun.

And we're still figuring this out.

Platy & Co is evolving.

Platycerium will always be part of what we do—they’re where this whole thing started.

But we're giving ourselves permission to wander a little.

To explore.

To find plants we’ve never heard of.

And hopefully introduce you to a few you’ve never heard of either.

So if you’re the kind of person who sees a completely ridiculous-looking plant and immediately thinks:

“What the hell is that?”

followed shortly by:

“Okay… where can I get one?”
