Stephania Erecta

Stephania erecta is a caudiciform vine with a rounded caudex and delicate, nearly circular leaves. For a while, you may own what appears to be a potato in a pot. Then a slender stem arrives, a leaf opens, and the potato declines to explain itself. This species grows seasonally, so a leafless stretch can be part of its cycle rather than the end of the story. Its peltate leaves attach near the middle of the blade, giving them that floating-coin look. You did not imagine the plant. It was simply taking its time.
