Rydeen

Platycerium ‘Rydeen’ is a staghorn fern grown for a crown that refuses to sit quietly. Upright shield fronds build the structure; finer divided fertile fronds extend the composition beyond it. Staghorns are epiphytic ferns, and their two frond types do different jobs: shields protect the base, while fertile fronds can carry spores. From a distance, ‘Rydeen’ looks carefully arranged. Move closer and the meeting gets out of hand. Its particular parentage and the translation attached to the name should be checked against the grower’s records before either becomes a factual claim.
