Ridleyi “Monkey King”

Platycerium ridleyi ‘Monkey King’ is a collector staghorn fern with the species’ striking shield-and-fertile-frond architecture. Its shield fronds make a textured base, while the fertile fronds supply the outward drama. The listed plant is described as having wavy edges, which gives the whole silhouette the look of a crown that missed an appointment with a comb. P. ridleyi is an epiphytic fern, growing on supports in its natural habitat. The ‘Monkey King’ name is a trade or cultivar label here; parentage, awards, and provenance need confirmation. The plant can keep its title. We will hold the coronation.
