Platycerium ‘Popcorn’ is a collector staghorn fern chosen for its crinkled, irregular texture. The shield fronds hold the base; fertile fronds create the outline, and this one appears to have negotiated extra surface area in every direction. Platycerium are epiphytic ferns, naturally growing attached to supports. “Popcorn” is a horticultural name here, so the exact lineage should stay out of the story until it is documented. You can see why someone named it after a snack. It has the same untidy confidence as a bowl of popcorn halfway through a film, only with fewer kernels in the sofa.
