Lophophora williamsii ‘Caespitosa’ is a spineless, button-shaped cactus offered as a clustering form. Instead of keeping a single quiet head, it may produce offsets that gather into a small council. The genus belongs to the cactus family, even though it has declined the usual cactus commitment to spines. The name “caespitosa” is used in horticulture for tufted or clustering growth; the precise taxonomic rank on this listing needs confirmation. This is a slow-looking plant with a social calendar. Given enough time, it may hold a meeting without inviting any of us.
