Platycerium FSQ - "Curly Staghorn"

Famous for its distinctive curling fertile fronds that curl inward at the tips when mature, creating a unique "curly" appearance that gives it the nickname "捲捲鹿" (Curly Staghorn). The fertile fronds are long, drooping, and elegantly divided with the characteristic curling tips that make this cultivar instantly recognizable. Shield fronds form a typical staghorn base, while the dramatic cascading fertile fronds create a spectacular waterfall effect with their signature curled ends.
Care Requirements:
  • Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sunlight which can scorch fronds
  • Water: Allow to dry between waterings; soak method preferred, early morning watering ideal
  • Temperature: 60-80°F (16-27°C) with good humidity
  • Mounting: Well-draining sphagnum moss on wood boards with excellent air circulation
Special Notes: The original Foong Si Qi was created by renowned Malaysian breeder SS Foong and named after his daughter. FSQ has become one of the most popular staghorn cultivars due to its distinctive curling fronds and is often the plant that draws newcomers into the staghorn hobby. Known for high genetic variability, making it a "cradle" for producing other notable cultivars. Relatively easy to grow compared to other specialty staghorns, making it accessible to intermediate growers.
