Ortegocactus macdougallii - The Last of Its Kind

Ortegocactus macdougallii is a small cactus with gray-green skin and a finely marked surface that looks almost mineral. It is the sole species in its genus, a fact that gives it a remarkably small family reunion. Native to Mexico, it grows with the compact, deliberate posture of a plant that has never rushed to impress anyone. The old description gives a precise wild population count and extinction claim that need a dated conservation source; those claims should not be reused here. The plant’s actual distinction is already enough. One genus, one species, and absolutely no need for a dramatic press release.
